Friedensreich Hundertwasser

His name translates to 'peace-kingdom hundred-water'...

I discovered this artist back in yr10 for GCSE art. His work includes paintings, sculptures and architecture- a contemporary austrian artist who was also quite controversial.

What's most interesting about his work is his unique style. His fascination with spirals and lines are evident in his paintings. Bright colours and organic forms are also very popular aswell as the juxtaposition between human and nature. He also adds a touch of surreal automatism but the focus is towards the viewer rather than for the artist themselves.

His architecture can be compared with Gaudi, with his use of tiles and bioforms to shape his buildings- all very individual and separate from the surrounding buildings in the area.
